When fully extended, it's the same length as the minimum depth of the ‘cathole’ you should dig.

Yes. You can simply wash the Nylon Pocket Trowel in very hot water (the melting point of the nylon is well above the boiling point of water).)
Can this trowel be used in rocky ground or soil with a lot of roots?
Only to a limited extent. In really rocky areas, or in soil with extensive root systems, the hardened blade of Alloy Pocket Trowel makes it the better choice.
