What is the problem with the Alpha and Sigma Pots with the black Nylon latch?

Sea to Summit is conducting this voluntary recall because Sea to Summit became aware that under certain conditions, the black Nylon latch may open, which may render the pot unusable for cooking and present a hazard. The black Nylon latch is intended as a secondary reinforcement to keep the handle in its locked position. When the black Nylon latch opens, it has the potential to present an injury hazard when pouring from the pot. Specifically, the black Nylon latch may open when pouring to the right using your left hand.

Please contact Sea to Summit using the above form or via the email and phone contacts provided below.

What could happen if I don’t replace the black Nylon latch and continue using the Alpha/Sigma pots?

The handle may not lock securely to the body of the pot making it unusable for cooking and present an injury hazard when pouring from the pot. Consumers should immediately stop using the affected pots and contact Sea to Summit for a replacement latch.

What if my Alpha/Sigma pot has a different latch?

If your Alpha/Sigma pot has a different latch to the black Nylon latch shown above, you can continue to use your Alpha/Sigma pot. Please see above photos to differentiate between the different latches used on the Alpha/Sigma pots.

What is the difference between the replacement latch and the black Nylon latch?

The replacement latch wraps around the handle and is affixed with a screw. It has also been designed to provide a tighter fit around the handle to keep the handle in the locked “open” position. The replacement latch is also used on the most recent range of the Alpha and Sigma pots.

I have replaced my latch but it feels harder to close – why?

The replacement latch has been designed for a tighter fit around the handle to keep the handle in the locked “open” position. It may feel tighter to open and close but that has been designed to keep you safe when you are cooking in the field.
