Sleeping Systems

At Sea to Summit, we’ve spent decades obsessing over the physics of a good night’s rest. From the humidity of the Outback to the thin air of the Himalayas, one thing holds true – you go further when you sleep better. That’s why we don't just make gear; we engineer sleeping systems.

How to Build a Complete Sleep System

Think of your sleep setup as a system, not a single piece of gear. When all components work together, comfort, warmth, and recovery improve. A true backpacking sleep system consists of three pillars: a sleeping pad for insulation from the ground, a sleeping bag or quilt to trap warmth, and a liner to add versatility and keep your setup clean. When these pieces click, you don’t just survive the night – edging into "best sleep of my life" territory becomes the norm.

Choosing the Right Pad, Bag, or Quilt

We’re perfectionists, so you don’t have to be. Our design philosophy is about removing friction. Need to shave grams for a thru-hike? Pair an Ultralight XR Mat with a technical quilt. Heading into alpine conditions? You’ll want the high R-value of an Ether Light XR paired with a down bag. We’ve done the field testing in the world’s harshest environments to ensure our gear is packable, purposeful, and surprisingly light.

Sleep Systems by Season & Activity

Whether you’re just getting out there for the weekend or going on a thru-hike, your gear should match your ambition.

  • Summer & Fast-Light: Minimalist liners and breathable quilts for those humid nights.

  • 3-Season Versatility: The "sweet spot" setup with a versatile down bag and a supportive air-sprung mat.

  • Winter Expeditions: Heavy-duty insulation designed to keep the cold of the earth at bay.

At Sea to Summit, we believe that "good enough" is never enough. Build your system, get out there, and sleep as you mean it.
